The Allegheny Islands Wilderness in Northwest Pennsylvania is a small but ecologically precious area, covering just 372 acres. Established in 1984, it includes seven islands along a 56-mile stretch of the Allegheny River, between the Buckaloons Recreation Area and Tionesta.
While there are no designated trails, the river-bottom woods are easily explored in early spring before understory vegetation thickens. Canoeists and kayakers will find plenty to explore here, as this section of river is part of an 87-mile "Recreational" designation within the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System.
This Wilderness is located on the ancestral lands of the ππ°ππ°ππ· πΌπππ» ππ»πΏπ· ππ°^ππ°^ (Osage) people.
