MCMINNVILLE is MAGICAL
Steal my afternoon stroll in McMinnville!
On a perfect rainy afternoon I spent the day strolling down Third Street in the heart of McMinnville.
love for my favorite Chicken Sandwich and a hug from Chef Sarah (btw, don’t ask for the hug, she doesn’t hug strangers- but do try all the bbq sauces)
hotel for a coffee and a cookie and a line up for Oregon Cookbook Authors. The little cafe meets market is light filled and their deli case is stocked with goodies from their restaurant
shopping at the “do not miss” recommendation from . A great spot for gifts.. (for yourself 😉)
because I can’t resist an indie bookstore, and this one packs a punch!
for traditional Neapolitan pizza, with the certification and all - oh, and a beautiful glass of sparkling wine ✨
Add your favorite spots in McMinnville in the comments - I’m headed back later@this month 🤭
COMPASS McMINNVILLE
I spent a few deeply restful days in McMinnville last month, and I’ve been thinking about this stay ever since.
I checked into Compass McMinnville, just steps from Third Street, where shops, restaurants, and tasting rooms line up one after another. It’s the kind of location where you can park the car and fully settle in.
The Compass is hard to categorize—in the best way. It’s a cross between a bed & breakfast, a luxury hostel, and a boutique hotel. Staying here feels like being welcomed into a friend’s beautifully considered vacation home, where every detail has already been thought through.
Owner Christie left her corporate career after following her love of travel. One rain-soaked camping trip led her to an unexpected stay at a hostel that completely changed how she thought about hospitality—and ultimately inspired this next chapter as a hotel owner.
After years of renovating her classic bungalow, guests now enjoy all the comforts of home: seamless Wi-Fi the moment you walk in, a cozy tasting room and honor wine bar, and generous common spaces designed for lingering.
When I asked Christie what mattered most when designing the guest experience, her answer was simple: a good night’s sleep. And she delivered. The bed and linens genuinely feel five-star.
This is an easy, casual getaway with an unexpected sense of luxury—and I already know I’ll be back.

JAPANESE OSECHI
Traditional food presented in 3 tiered lacquered boxes to welcome a year of good health, happiness, long life and prosperity.
In Japan, the new year is the most important season. According to ancient Japanese folklore, osechi is made to welcome the New Year’s spirit Tashigami-sama, a symbol of renewal, care, and prosperity.
For Calder, my mom, and me, this isn’t just about food. It’s about reconnecting with traditions that were quietly lost over generations, and finding our way back through shared work, care, and community. Watching elders lead with patience, precision, and pride—while younger generations learned by doing—was incredibly moving.
Osechi is ceremonial, symbolic, and deeply beautiful. But what stayed with me most was the feeling of belonging that came from working together. Grateful to be welcomed into this space, and to keep learning—one carefully placed dish at a time.
We are so fortunate to have care for our heritage and advocate for the respect of communities across the state.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!.
NAUGHTY OR NICE?
That is the question I asked myself all weekend. So I went up to have a conversation with the big guy! 🎅🏽🎄
My selfie was interrupted by the Grinch but it didn’t keep me from sweet treats, a bit of shoe shopping and a great sushi dinner!
It’s a balance - the key to Holiday Shopping is to treat yourself, just a bit!
Get your Christmas List in, Santa’s in a really good mood! 🤭🤞🏽
THE VILLAGE AT TOTEM LAKE
When Santa and his friends invite you up for a day of fun, who can say no? I was not going to risk being on the Naughty List!
Holiday shopping was magical, filled with great shops, restaurants and all of my Christmas friends! I even enjoyed a scoop of with Mrs. Clause!
