Sometimes self-care is going home and resting.
And sometimes self-care is getting your ass up and doing the workout you really don't feel like doing. 😂
The hard part is learning to tell the difference.
Because feeling tired doesn't always mean you need more rest.
Feeling resistance doesn't always mean you're pushing too hard.
And discomfort isn't automatically a sign that something is wrong.
But the opposite is true too.
There are absolutely times when pushing through is the wrong call. When sleep is poor, stress is high, you're getting sick, recovery is falling apart, or your body is clearly asking for less.
This is why I don't love blanket advice like:
“Always listen to your body.”
or
“Discipline means doing it whether you feel like it or not.”
Both can be useful. Neither tells the whole story.
Sometimes the question I want you to ask is:
Am I genuinely depleted… or am I avoiding discomfort?
Those require two very different responses.
One might need recovery.
The other might need you to stop negotiating with yourself, put your shoes on, and go. 😂
Learning that difference is part of building a stronger body—but also a stronger relationship with yourself.
Save this for the next time you're standing between recovery and accountability trying to figure out which one you actually need. 💗
Before I recommend another supplement to a client, I want to know if we've already covered the basics.
How's protein? Hydration? Are they strength training consistently? Are they walking?
How's sleep? What's their stress been like?
Are they recovering well?
Don't get me wrong—I use supplements for myself and clients but there's absolutely times when they can be helpful.
But I think people are often looking for a supplement to solve a problem that a habit would solve better.
When I'm coaching someone, I want to build the foundation first.
Then, if we need to layer something else in, we do.
That's because I'm not looking for the quickest fix.
I'm looking for the biggest return on effort.
That's how I coach.
If you could improve one of these over the next month, which would you choose?

I care about building muscle for how it changes a physique.
But that’s nowhere near the only reason I care about it.
I want to be able to carry my own groceries. Get myself off the floor. Hike. Travel. Move through the world confidently. Keep doing the things I love for as long as I possibly can.
And as I get older, that matters to me more and more.
We’ve spent so much time teaching women to think about their bodies in terms of how small they can make them.
I’d rather ask a different question:
What do you want your body to still be capable of 10, 20, 30 years from now?
Because the muscle you build now isn’t only for the body you have today.
You’re building capacity for the woman you’re becoming. 💗
