I have been debating on posting this to my hair page for a few days but then i realized that as my clients, my friends, you all share so much with me while I’m doing your hair so let me share a little glimpse of my life for a change.
Three years ago today, the world lost such a bright light. My aunt Megan was not only one of my favorite people in this world but she was also a super talented hair stylist.
Megan did hair for about 10 years professionally. She saw all the wild styles like the chunky 2000s highlights, the guylights, and the slim shady bleached shaved head. She was always willing and eager to learn, I was her test dummy some of the time. She turned my hair blue on accident but I rocked that s**t. Growing up, she would help me convince my mom to let me put fun colors in my hair and feathers, which is probably the reason I change my hair color so much now. The older I got, the more I saw how tough the industry was towards her. She faced a lot of personal and professional challenges through her career that nobody should’ve had to face. She was resilient though because she didn’t just do hair because it was her job, it was what she loved doing.
Outside of the salon, my aunt was a firecracker. She was fierce, sassy, funny, and the loudest in the room. She never put up with any one’s s**t. She has two boys that she left behind, Ray and Cash. She loved them more than anything. She was truly meant to be a mom. I remember how happy and excited she was when she first found out she was pregnant. She loved to sing and really did have a beautiful voice. She sucked at driving, I would be scared for my life every time I was in the car with her. Ironically enough she became a part time driving instructor later in life. She was always the most supportive person in my life. No matter what terrible decision I was making that I thought was brilliant at the time, she always stood in my corner cheering me on.
