One of the benefits of maintaining your highlights over time is that each appointment becomes more efficient. Because Kristina already had beautiful highlights throughout her hair from previous appointments, I didn’t have to recreate all of that brightness. Instead, I focused on refreshing her new growth and strategically adding highlights where they were needed. Her existing highlights continued to provide brightness and dimension, allowing me to achieve a full highlighted look with less work on the hair.

Let’s talk about hair color and the color shirt you wear to your appointment. 👀

In my experience, dark hair colors photograph best when paired with light to medium-colored clothing. The contrast allows the richness, shine, and dimension of the hair to stand out.

Blonde hair, on the other hand, almost always pops the most against black. The contrast makes every highlight, lowlight, and ribbon of brightness visible.

Of course, these are just my opinions as a hairstylist who spends an embarrassing amount of time staring at hair photos—but they haven’t led me astray yet. 😉

Color Correction Reminders ✨

One of the biggest misconceptions about color corrections is that they’re always about getting lighter.

Sometimes they’re about creating balance.
This guest came to me with hair that contained a mixture of very bright pieces, darker pieces, and uneven placement. While there was already plenty of blonde throughout her hair, the overall result lacked cohesion and flow.

My goal wasn’t to make her blonder. My goal was to create a color that felt intentional, blended seamlessly, and would grow out beautifully between appointments.

If you’re considering a major hair transformation, here are a few things to keep in mind:
