✨I’ve been a Stylist for 27 years and it always boggles my mind when I run into other Stylists that don’t want to learn or understand their job.

✨Being a hairstylist means understanding, geometry, understanding a little bit of chemistry, understanding a little bit of anatomy. If we are choosing not to understand those things, then why even bother going to school?

✨As a curly hair stylist and a hair colorist, it is my job to understand these things. And I love understanding it because the more I understand the better I am at serving the people that sit in my chair.

✨So the question is then why would you not want to learn if you are that incredible? So many times as hair stylists we do with the manufacturer tells us and we don’t ask why and then when we run into a problem, we don’t know how to fix it and we blame the color or we blame the client.

✨In reality a lot of times it’s our fault when things go wrong because we didn’t ask the question or we didn’t do the homework. So, no I probably wouldn’t hire an incredible hair stylist if they don’t understand the chemistry or don’t want to. That’s not incredible to me.

Cutting hair is nuanced. The skillset is very deliberate and requires serious hand/eye coordination.

When someone brings me a generated hair photo, I don’t get angry. I do like to point out where I can get inspiration for the style we are about to do.

In this case, my client had a curly hair cut photo. She knew that this photo was inspiration and that what I could achieve would be much different.

I don’t get upset when someone brings me this type of photo. To me, it’s a starting place for my haircut or color.
