There is NOTHINGGGG better than witnessing a strong woman empower herself through birth more than once.

This client of mine dealt with prodromal labor for weeks, and I’m so proud of her resilience, patience, and strength!

Gems and crystals are often believed to have healing properties. When I learned that Botswana Agate is known for easing emotional distress, providing comfort during major life changes, and grounding energy, I immediately bought a bracelet and added it to my doula bag.

My hope is that this simple bracelet will get to be worn either by myself or by my clients in every birth I get to attend. I wore it to a birth last week, and this week my client wore it throughout her labor. Two births in, many more to go!

I had the rare opportunity to do some twin placenta art a few weeks back. I looooved trying out this “Two Trees” design!

All week long, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how incredible it is that I’ve been able to help Tarah Lee Koopmans bring all 3 of her babies into this world. It is not lost on me how much of a privilege it is to be trusted with such a transformative and vulnerable moment even once. But THREE times?? I will forever be grateful for them, and the chance they took on a brand new doula years ago, and the relationship we’ve been able to build and deepen with each new baby.

Repeats clients are such a blessing. 💕

Yesterday’s birth had a true knot in the umbilical cord! These happen when, early in the pregnancy, the baby moves around enough to tie a knot in the cord. Happening in less than 1% of births, most people assume that a true knot = fetal distress in labor. And while that can certainly happen, often times they go completely unnoticed until after the delivery.

This was the case for this sweet 9lb+ baby! He was champ throughout the entire labor with NO signs of distress. How cool to witness!

Permanently back in St. George again and feeling so grateful to be supporting several returning clients as they grow their families again. 🤍

I got to help this little guy’s mom bring him into the world nearly two years ago, and it felt as if we’d been friends since before he was even born (because we were 😏).

Such a special photo to me. In this moment, my sweet client had just given birth moments before, and had her baby boy placed on her chest.

While everyone was focusing on the new and crying baby, I was watching my client closely. She was still struggling, reeling from the intensity of what had just happened. I quickly grabbed her head, pressed her forehead against mine, and did my best attempt to ground her. I can’t remember what was said, but I remember the emotions in that moment were strong.

Everyone assumes I love being a doula because I get to hold lots of babies. And while that’s a part of it, THIS moment is why I love being a doula. Because I get to hold women. In their most raw, vulnerable moments.
And there is no greater privilege than being trusted with someone’s heart while their whole world changes.

I have the BEST job in the world. So immensely proud of my amazingly strong clients lately 🥹❤️

Butter Birth: [🧈] noun
When labor progresses perfectly, both mom and baby handle the pushing phase well, baby cries right away, mom’s bleeding is minimal, the placenta delivers quickly, and baby latches without an issue. So smooth, it might as well be butter ✨

This client of mine did so fantastically last night at her home birth. What a beautiful thing to witness a family of 3 become 4 💕

Six babies were brought into the world in this room this week. Six!!! Six women were transformed into a new version of themselves. Six sweet souls were kissed and held and lovingly fed for the first time in their lives. Six different pushes, roars, screams, and cries were all heard within these walls. What a marvelous, sacred, special work to be a part of.
