“Inflammation” gets blamed for a lot—but what does the word actually mean?
Inflammation is part of the body's response to injury, irritation, infection, or other triggers. It can be part of how the body responds to a problem, but inflammation itself doesn't tell you exactly what caused the symptom.
It also doesn't always mean the same thing from person to person.
Understanding what is happening requires looking at the full picture: symptoms, timing, history, examination, and function.
If symptoms are persistent, worsening, or affecting your daily activities, consider discussing them with a healthcare professional.

Ever notice a symptom somewhere that doesn't seem to match where the problem started?
Symptoms can sometimes be experienced away from the area contributing to them.
For example, nerve-related symptoms can follow a nerve pathway, while referred pain can be felt in another area without following that same pathway.
That means a symptom that “travels” isn't automatically a pinched nerve—and the place you feel it isn't always the whole story.
Pay attention to the pattern:
• Where did it begin?
• Where does it travel?
• What changes it?
• Are there numbness, tingling, or strength changes?
If symptoms persist, worsen, or affect your function, consider an evaluation.

Peripheral neuropathy can affect how a person feels and moves, sometimes making everyday activities more difficult. Symptoms often begin with numbness, prickling, or tingling in the toes or fingers. These sensations may gradually spread into the feet or hands. Some people experience burning or...

POV: You turn your head to check your blind spot and your neck says, “Absolutely not.”
When a specific movement consistently brings on neck discomfort, that pattern can give you useful information.
Pay attention to which movements are difficult, when the discomfort started, whether your range of motion has changed, and whether you're noticing other symptoms such as pain, numbness, or tingling elsewhere.
The goal isn't to diagnose yourself. It's to understand the pattern and recognize when a symptom may need more attention.
Does turning your head ever make you think twice? 👇
If symptoms are persistent, worsening, or affecting your daily activities, consider having them evaluated.

Does your jaw hurt when you chew, yawn, or open your mouth?
Jaw discomfort can involve the muscles around the jaw, the jaw joint, surrounding tissues, or other factors—including dental issues.
Pay attention to:
• Clicking or popping
• Pain with chewing or opening
• Jaw stiffness or limited movement
• Headaches or facial discomfort
• Changes in how your bite feels
The pattern matters more than simply labeling it “jaw pain.”
If jaw pain occurs suddenly with chest pressure, shortness of breath, sweating, or other concerning symptoms, seek urgent medical attention.
If symptoms persist or interfere with eating, speaking, or normal movement, consider having them evaluated.

Joint stiffness can happen for many different reasons, and the word “stiff” doesn't automatically tell you what's happening inside the joint.
Stiffness may be associated with periods of inactivity, changes within the joint, inflammation, surrounding muscles and tissues, or other factors depending on the individual.
That's why it can be useful to look at the pattern:
• When does the stiffness occur?
• How long does it last?
• Does movement change it?
• Is there swelling, pain, or limited movement?
• Is it affecting your normal activities?
Understanding those details can provide more useful information than simply labeling something as a “stiff joint.”
In our latest YouTube video, we take a closer look at why joints can become stiff, including arthritis, joint changes, and the role of movement.

If stiffness persists or begins affecting your normal activities, consider having it evaluated.
