Instead, pay attention to the close-contact moments in your child’s day, sleepovers, playtime, team huddles, selfies, or any situation where heads and hair are close together.

Can lice hide in thick or curly hair?

They can definitely be harder to spot! Lice don’t care what your hair type is, but dense, curly, or heavily styled hair can make a quick visual check more challenging.

That’s why a thorough lice check means sectioning the hair and looking closely near the scalp, not just giving the hair a quick glance.

Because sometimes, the hardest part is finding what’s hiding in plain sight.

As hair grows, nits (lice eggs) move farther away from the scalp. That means their position on the hair shaft can sometimes give clues about when they were laid, with nits closer to the scalp generally more likely to be recent.

Of course, nit placement isn’t an exact timeline, but it can be one helpful clue when checking for lice.

Lice and nits can be easy to miss, so make sure you’re checking these commonly overlooked areas:

Front of the hairline�
Crown of the head�
Behind the ears�
Back of the neck�
