💰 It’s Funding Friday!
Looking for opportunities for your business but not sure where to start?
Here are 3 places women-owned businesses should be looking:
🏛️ 1. Government Procurement Portals
Don’t just look at federal opportunities. Check your state, city, county, transit authorities, school districts, universities, and other public agencies to see what they’re buying.
🤝 2. Prime Contractor Opportunities
You don’t always have to start as the prime! Larger companies need qualified small businesses and diverse suppliers to help perform contracts. Subcontracting can be a great way to build relationships and past performance.
💰 3. Grants & Business Funding Programs
Look for grants, pitch competitions, business development programs, and other funding opportunities offered through corporations, foundations, chambers, and small-business organizations.
Here’s the key: Don’t wait until you need an opportunity to start looking for opportunities.
Make research part of your weekly business routine.
📌 Pick ONE of these three areas today and spend 30 minutes researching.
Then tell us below: Where are you currently looking for opportunities?

Winning a government contract sounds exciting—and it is. But what happens when you have to cover payroll, purchase materials, hire additional staff, pay vendors, or handle other expenses BEFORE the payment comes in?
That’s why being contract ready also means being financially ready.
In this episode, we’re talking about:
💰 Cash flow
💰 Working capital
💰 Understanding your numbers
💰 Preparing financially BEFORE you win
💰 Why a big contract isn’t always a good contract if your business isn’t ready to perform
The goal isn’t just to WIN the contract.
The goal is to WIN it, PERFORM it, and still have a healthy business when it’s over.

It’s Contract Ready Monday! 📑✨
Finding a government contract is one thing. Being ready to win it AND perform it is another.
Here are 5 signs your business may not be contract ready — YET:
1️⃣ You can’t clearly explain what you do.
2️⃣ Your financials aren’t in order.
3️⃣ You’re bidding on everything.
4️⃣ You don’t have the capacity to perform.
5️⃣ You’re relying on certifications to do the work for you.
And let’s talk about #5! 👀
Certifications can open doors, but they are not the strategy. You still need a strong business, the right opportunities, relationships, financial capacity, and a plan for how you’re going to compete.
The good news? If you recognize your business in this list, you know exactly where to start working.
💬 Which one are you working on right now?

A huge thank you to the Houston Defender for highlighting HER Gov Summit as a hub for Black women entrepreneurs in the government contracting space.
We’re proud of the community we’re building, but the conversation doesn’t stop there. There is still work to be done to ensure Black women-owned businesses have greater access to contracts, resources, relationships, and opportunities to scale.
HER Gov is committed to being part of that work—creating spaces where women can learn, connect, collaborate, and position their businesses for real opportunities in government and corporate contracting.

Everyone talks about winning the contract.
Not enough people talk about building the relationships that make those opportunities possible.
The businesses that position themselves well understand that opportunities don't just come from paperwork, they come from being known, being present, and building meaningful connections.
🎙️ A powerful excerpt from the HER Gov Podcast.

There are billions of dollars in government contracts awarded every year—yet women entrepreneurs, especially minority women, continue to receive only a small share of those opportunities.
Think about that.
There is an entire marketplace filled with opportunities to grow, scale, build capacity, create jobs, and generate wealth—and too many women business owners still don’t know how to access it.
That is exactly why HER Gov exists. 🤍
We’re building a community where women entrepreneurs can gain the knowledge, resources, connections, and strategy they need to confidently enter the government and corporate contracting space.
Because we don’t just need more women starting businesses.
We need more women scaling businesses.
Winning contracts.
Building capacity.
And getting our share of the opportunities available.
You don’t have to figure this industry out alone.
✨ Join the HER Gov community. Get in the room. Learn the game. Position your business. And go after your piece of the pie.

The room won't come looking for you.
Sometimes, you have to walk in.

Stop shrinking. Start showing up.
🎙️ Episode 2: The Room That You Are Not Walking Into
Hosted by Tamanisha Casey-Mayberry.
Listen now on all major podcast platforms.
Too many business owners rush to chase opportunities before building the foundation to sustain them.
The result? Missed deadlines, broken trust, and a reputation that’s harder to rebuild than it is to protect.
Don’t put the carriage before the horse.
In this clip from Episode 1 of the HER Gov Podcast, we’re talking about why preparation should always come before opportunity.
