Day 5 of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month! 💙💛

This month, we are celebrating people with Down syndrome by sharing our local individuals with Down syndrome every day this month with their stories. Help spread awareness, acceptance, and meaningful inclusion in schools and communities!

"Alyssa, With a Little Extra.

If you ask me about my daughter Alyssa, Down syndrome is only one part of her story. Cheerleading, Disney, movies and eating out fill quite a few of the other chapters! And we can’t forget salsa music. She LOVES it! Clearly, this girl got it from her mama, cause her moves she got from her daddy 😳🫣

At our monthly read along, she may not be quite as interested in the book as she is in the craft afterward. Give her something to decorate and now we’re talking! And watching her cheer with her team makes this mama’s heart so happy. Yes, I’m absolutely the proud mom in the crowd.

As her mom, I want people to take the time to know Alyssa. Know what she enjoys, cheer for her accomplishments and give her the chance to show you who she is. She’s a young lady with her own interests, her own personality and so much to offer.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, but I get to celebrate Alyssa all year. Life with my girl comes with a little extra, and my favorite part is the love." Isabel Rojas-knapp
