Thank you for your emails and calls about the fires in Spokane. We were talking yesterday to one family that was evacuated and we asked what can we do to help. They said that they don't know what they will need - the fires are not contained and evacuation areas are still being enforced. Right now, we can do this one thing and be prepared to help more as the needs become clearer: We have offered our building for this food distribution:

Meal and Produce Distribution - 8/7 - 1-4 pm

The Spokane Buddhist Temple, The Family Guide, Spokane United We Stand, Mission Meadows Community Garden, Millwood Impact, Western Farms of Idaho, Charlie's Produce, Eggers Southhill, Coffman Engineers and Island Style BBQ, have come together to provide nutritious meals and fresh produce to those in need.

The distribution will include prepared meals, fresh produce, salads, and vegetarian options.

The event will be held Friday, August 7, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., Spokane, WA 99202. Please use the Perry Street entrance and enter through the north basement door. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Spokane United We Stand/The Family Guide is taking donations to cover the cost of the supplies that aren't being donated for this event. Contact them at 509-928-9664.
