One of the biggest misconceptions in lip filler is thinking every lip should be treated the same

Lip tissue matters. It affects how filler sits, stretches, and how much product may be needed

This patient has airy lip tissue, meaning there are loose pockets within the lips. We started with a half syringe because that was her comfort level, but it wasn’t enough to fully support the tissue

After adding more filler at her second appointment, the lips looked smoother and filled out more of those loose pockets

The same amount of filler will not produce the same result in every patient because not all lip tissue is the same

Understanding the tissue you’re working with is just as important as the product being used

I’ve started and stopped writing this more times than I can count, not because I don’t know what to say, but because writing it makes everything feel real

If you know me, you know I didn’t get here the easy way. I paid my own way through school and spent much of my life putting myself last. Choosing myself never came naturally

Opening The Facial Refinery changed that for me. It showed me I was capable of more than I ever believed

Which why this is so hard to say…..

I’ve made the decision to step away from The Facial Refinery

This has been one of the hardest decisions, but after a lot of thought, I know it’s the right one for our family. My husband was recently offered an incredible promotion in Kansas City, and saying yes to this next chapter means walking away from something that has meant so much to me

My husband has stood beside me through every risk, long day, and dream I’ve chased. Now it’s my turn to stand beside him the way he always has for me

And Rachel… there truly are not enough words. We built this together with faith, a vision, and a lot of sleepless nights. Knowing she’ll continue what we created brings me so much peace

To my patients… this is the hardest part

Many of you became so much more than patients. You became friends, and trusting me the way you did is something I will never take for granted

This became so much more than a job, and I’m going to miss you all more than I can put into words

You will always have a home at The Facial Refinery, and I trust this team completely. Continuing to support them moving forward would mean so much to me

To everyone who trusted me, supported me, referred someone to me, or simply followed along through this chapter of my life… thank you. You have meant more to me than you probably realize

My last day seeing patients at The Facial Refinery will be August 28.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. 🤍

If you only went to the gym once or twice a year… would you expect to stay in shape?

Probably not

Aesthetic treatments work the same way. One treatment here and there usually isn’t enough to create noticeable or lasting change

Most results build gradually and improve with a consistent approach

I hear this often, people saying they tried something once and didn’t notice much change or expected dramatic results right away

Most aesthetic treatments aren’t designed to completely transform everything after one appointment. Consistency is what creates and maintains results over time

Botox, filler, lasers, chemical peels and skincare usually work best when they’re part of a consistent maintenance plan rather than occasional treatments

Usually the best outcomes come from maintaining things instead of waiting until everything completely wears off and starting over every single time

If you’re not sure where to start, that’s what consultations are for

Let’s talk about the gas tank analogy 🚗 💉

If your destination is Dallas, a quarter tank may get you started, but you may not make it very far

The same concept can apply with Botox

Placing two little in each muscle may create some early improvement, but movement can return sooner when there isn’t enough throughout the area

Just like a gas gauge, Botox doesn’t stay on full forever. Once it kicks in, muscle activity gradually starts returning little by little each day

⚠️Disclaimer: this graphic is simply an analogy. Treatment amounts and longevity vary based on muscle strength, facial, anatomy, brow, position, metabolism, activity, level, previous treatments, movement patterns, and individual goals.

Botox isn’t just used in the upper face

Most people don’t realize their jawline has muscles working against it

Strategic placement of Botox along the jawline can soften small portions of that downward pull, which can change what you’re seeing here… even with expression.

Will this replace surgery? No

Can it make a noticeable difference in the right patient? Absolutely

Everyone wants Botox or Dysport in the upper face first… I get it, that’s what you see

But the lower face matters just as much, and there’s more we can do there than people realize

Treating one area is easy… knowing when the rest needs it too is the difference

My favorite lower face areas to treat:
• Along the jawline (Nefertiti) – helps reduce downward pull along the jaw and can soften the look of jowling
• Neck bands – relaxes vertical bands in the neck for a smoother look
• Corners of the mouth (DAO) – lifts the corners so you don’t look pulled down or tired

Aging isn’t happening where you think it is

Most people think aging is just about lines and wrinkles

But the reality is that several layers of the face change over time, and those changes affect how everything sits and moves

Understanding those changes is what guides a thoughtful treatment plan

Once you understand this, facial aging starts to make more sense.

Everyone comes in with different goals for their lips, and that’s completely fine

What’s important to remember is that lips have limits ⚠️

We’re all working with different shapes, different tissue, different textures, and different stages of life

Once you start pushing past what the lips can naturally support, that’s when things begin to look unnatural and problems can start to show up 🚩

What your lips tolerated years ago may not be what they need today

Not every lip can hold every request

Most patients don’t want to look overdone… but they also don’t want to invest in something they can barely see or that wears off too fast

One thing to remember: dosing isn’t one size fits all, and it isn’t something patients are meant to self direct. Part of our role as medical providers is determining what your face actually needs to get you to your goal safely and effectively 🧠 ✨

It’s similar to being prescribed a new medication. The dose is based on clinical judgment, not preference alone

When the plan makes sense for you, the results tend to look better and last longer 🫶🏼

She didn’t want bigger

She just wanted to look a little more put together without anyone knowing she did anything 🤫

That’s exactly what we did ✅
