Yesterday, we said goodbye to our sweet Colonel Dewey.
I still can’t believe I’m writing those words.
The world lost a king yesterday. We lost our best friend.
Dewey wasn’t “just a dog.” He was my shadow, my comfort, my constant companion through so many seasons of life. He celebrated our happiest moments, stayed by our side through the hardest ones, and loved us with a loyalty that only a dog can.
Our hearts are shattered.
To everyone who reached out, prayed, checked on us, shared stories, or simply sat with us in this heartbreak… thank you. We have felt your love every step of the way, and we will never forget it.
A very special thank you to “Aunt” Carole. Thank you for making the incredibly selfless decision all those years ago to trust us with your boy. Because of you, we were blessed with nearly 10 unforgettable years with the most incredible dog. We are forever grateful. I know you’ll be waiting for him at Heaven’s gates with open arms.
I hope you knew how deeply you were loved, Dewey.
Thank you for every walk, every snore, every cuddle, every laugh, every slobbery kiss, and every memory. Thank you for choosing us.
There will never be another Colonel Dewey.
Run free, handsome boy. Chase all the squirrels. Soak up every sunbeam. We’ll carry your paw prints on our hearts for the rest of our lives.

Many of you have come to know and love our sweet Colonel Dewey over the years, and I wanted to share that unfortunately, we won’t get to have him with us much longer. He has been diagnosed with heart failure. We are absolutely shattered.
I also want to take a moment to thank every single person who has reached out, checked in, sent a message, prayed for us, or simply let us know you’re thinking about our family. Your kindness has meant more to me than I could ever put into words.
If there’s one thing I’m being reminded of through all of this, it’s to pay attention to the people who show up when life gets hard. Keep those people close. They are truly a gift.
Thank you for loving our Colonel Dewey and for loving on our family during such a heartbreaking time. We appreciate you more than you know.
Please be patient with me as I learn to navigate this world without my best friend.
