Your expensive serum won’t do much if you’re using it incorrectly.

Actives are formulated to work in specific environments, which is why how you use and layer them matters.

A simple order to follow:
Cleanser → targeted treatments → hydrating products → moisturizer.

In honor of National Esthetician Day, I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself and share what we’re all about at Maria Nicole Aesthetics.

If you’re new around here, hi, I’m Maria! I’m a Licensed Esthetician, Skin Revision Specialist, and the founder of MNA.

Here is what makes our approach different:

• Root-Cause Focus: Skin isn't just surface-level. With a background in Kinesiology, I look at how internal function, gut health, hormones, and lifestyle intersect to trigger what shows up on your skin. We don’t mask symptoms, we correct them at the source.

• Advanced Skin Revision: We specialize in clinical modalities, partnering with transformative systems like DMK and Face Reality to address everything from chronic acne and barrier damage to targeted age management.

• A True Partnership: You don’t just leave with a temporary glow - you leave with a customized plan, education, and the ongoing support needed to achieve real, long-term skin health.

Whether you’ve been on the treatment table with me for years or are just finding your way here, I am so grateful to welcome you into the treatment room and guide you on your skin revision journey. 🤍

Constantly dry, red skin can be a sign of transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

TEWL happens when water escapes through the skin faster than it should, often because the skin barrier has been compromised.

Over-exfoliating, harsh cleansers, too many actives, hot water, and even over-cleansing can all make it worse.

Sometimes the issue isn’t your moisturizer. It’s how well your skin is retaining water.

Yes, you can have dry skin and clogged pores at the same time.

When your skin is dehydrated, it doesn’t shed dead skin cells as effectively, which can contribute to buildup and congestion.

Stripping your skin even more isn’t the answer. The goal is to restore the environment your skin needs to function properly.

Not everyone needs a toner.

For acne-prone skin, the right toner can help manage excess oil and support your acne regimen.

But toner isn’t there to make your skin “extra clean.”

10/07/2026

That “squeaky clean” feeling might actually mean you’re over-cleansing.

Harsh cleansers, hot water, excessive scrubbing, and over-exfoliating can strip your skin and disrupt the microbiome that helps support a healthy skin barrier.

Repairing your skin barrier isn’t just about using a thicker moisturizer.

Your barrier relies on the right balance of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids to function properly. When that balance gets disrupted, you can start experiencing dryness, redness, flaking, burning, or even sensitivity to products you normally tolerate.

Sometimes the answer isn’t more moisture. It’s figuring out what’s disrupting your barrier in the first place. 🤍

Hot water doesn't open your pores, and cold water doesn't close them.

Rubbing collagen on your face is the equivalent of rubbing protein powder on your muscles to build them.

Collagen isn’t an ingredient you apply; it’s a process you trigger.

I get why people chase higher percentages on skincare labels. More sounds better, right?

But percentages mean nothing if the formulation isn’t built correctly.

4 things determine if a product works:
✔️ Percentage
✔️ pH
✔️ Delivery system
✔️ Raw ingredient quality

Next time you’re eyeing a new product, ask your esthetician to break down the formulation to find out if it’s actually effective, or just marketing...
