The Syracuse International Film Festival 2018 will take place on October 10-13, 2018. Now in its 15th year, the festival presents films from around the world in a juried competition.

There will be four top cash awards, starting at $1,000, a special music video and web series award, three of the festival’s coveted beautiful crystal Sophia Awards, and other category specific awards.

The Festival is sponsored by the Syracuse International Film Festival in partnership with CNY Film Professionals and Syracuse University.

Eligible Films
We seek films on any subject. Submissions can be any length, any genre, and can include Feature Film, Feature Documentaries, Animation, Experimental Films, Short Films, Music Videos, and Web Series.

Music Videos will be judged based on the creative quality and concept of the visual.

For Web Series, filmmakers should submit only ONE episode.
All submissions must have a copyright date of 2016 or later.
Judges are professional filmmakers, film critics, and writers.

Obie's Mom: Female- African American, late 50’s, Loves Dante and was his teacher at an early age when Dante first moved upstate years ago.

12MIN SHORT FILM: STARRY-EYED

Synopsis:

In this 12-min short film, the disappearance of a young girl, 8-year old Halley, affects the kids and teens of a small neighborhood in unique and shocking ways.
Kari believes she was abandoned by aliens, and she goes to great lengths to find her. A trio of teen boys, the Devil Boys, imagine a darker fate for Halley, but they are not prepared for what they find.

Character Descriptions:

[KARI] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 13 - 17]

Kari has a wild imagination and loves going on adventures. Halley is her best friend, her little sister and they are inseparable, but when Halley mysteriously disappears, Kari is tested mentally and emotionally as she tries to retain her hope.

[HALLEY] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 8 - 10]

Halley is sweet-natured and believes in the magic of the world. She has the same wild imagination as her old sister, Kari. Her friendship with Kari is one of the most important things to her.

[VEGA] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 17 - 21]

Vega is that cool kid from high school that didn’t try to be cool he just is. He may be a sociopath or a reckless teenager, he is at the age where you’re not sure. But a tragedy tests his cool guy exterior, to a heartbreaking degree.

[ALLEN] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 17 - 21]

A chill guy with no brains, but a lot of heart. He just wants to have a good time. He has trust for Vega, but he soon regrets that.

CNY Film Festival 2018 is a juried competition for films made by filmmakers who have a connection to New York State. This means that the filmmaker was born here, regardless of where he or she is living now, or is currently living or has lived in NYS, attended school or worked here, or whose film has a NYS subject matter. Submissions can be of any length, and can include film, documentary, or animation. Judges are professional filmmakers, film critics, and writers.

Synopsis: Maria is an action/drama about a life-sized sentient doll tasked with destroying a small town infected with a dangerous plague. However on the way she encounters a young girl and her cheerful father who's kindness begins to challenge her idea of what is right..

CHARACTER ROLES:

MARIA (Female):
A life sized sentient doll. Caucasian, 20s, Blond hair, (or willing to wear a wig) average to above average height, speaks only in French and has trouble communicating with people because of it. Strong, Dutiful, Confident, Maria is a perfectionist who always sees her assignments through to the end. Maria is gold standard that all the other dolls in Dante’s collection aspire to reach, Maria knows this and is proud of it. This role is heavy on physical acting, Maria speaks volumes through her actions not words.(Actress must be willing to learn French.. You will have a tutor that will teach you the parts in the script that is French.. Must be able to do a French accent during film)

ROSA (Child) :
Caucasian, very young girl. 5-9yrs Old Vibrant, Bright, Energetic, and Innocent. She enjoys
sweets and playing with her dolls but likes to take them on adventures instead of playing house. Always finding a new hobby or interest.

WAITE (Male) :
Caucasian, middle aged man. Optimistic, Caring, and Cheerful to a fault. Waite worked hard from humble beginning in his small town to become a doctor. His positive can do attitude has lead him to never give up. He is incredibly proud of his daughter Rosa’s brightness.

DANTE (Elderly Type Female):
Caucasian, elderly woman. Commanding, Direct, Elegant, Refined, Cultured, and Powerful. Dante by herself runs an underground organization that contracts out life size sentient dolls to perform dangerous tasks. She acts as both a strict mother figure and a boss for the dolls. Dante dresses in all red and has a very refined yet matter of fact way of speaking, possibly a London style English accent. She has incredible presence whenever she is in a scene.
