2. Autoimmune origin: Alopecia areata occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles.
3. Varying severity: It ranges from small patches (areata) to total scalp hair loss (totalis) or complete body hair loss (universalis).
4. Unpredictable cycle: Hair can regrow randomly at any time, but it may also fall out again.
5. No cure exists: Treatments like steroid injections, topical creams, or oral medications only help stimulate regrowth.
