Tech neck is a real thing.

We spend a lot of time talking with patients about posture, but poor posture usually doesn't cause pain overnight. It's the accumulation of small stresses over months and years that can eventually become a problem.

We put together this quick 72-second explanation of what's actually happening when your head starts living farther and farther in front of your shoulders.

“But I didn’t even do anything!”

We hear this all the time when someone comes in with sudden neck or back pain.

Maybe you bent over to tie your shoe, picked up a laundry basket, or simply woke up hurting. It’s easy to blame that one moment, but often the problem has been quietly building for months or even years.

Poor posture, long hours at a computer, “tech neck,” restricted joints, and muscle compensation can gradually change the way your body moves. Eventually, something simple becomes the final straw.

Our newest article explains why posture-related pain often creeps up on you, why simply “sitting up straighter” isn’t always the answer, and how chiropractic care and massage therapy may help address what’s actually contributing to the problem.

If you deal with recurring neck pain, headaches, shoulder tension, or low back pain, this one is worth a read: https://bodyinbalancechiro.com/how-poor-posture-causes-pain/

It's Not Just About Sitting Up Straighter

One of the biggest myths about posture is that fixing it is simply a matter of remembering to sit up straight.

If only it were that easy.

Healthy posture is less about forcing yourself into the "perfect" position and more about having a body that moves well in the first place. When joints become stiff or muscles begin compensating for one another, maintaining good posture becomes much harder, even if you're trying.

At Body In Balance, we look beyond where it hurts to understand why your body started moving differently. Sometimes chiropractic care is the answer. Sometimes massage therapy is the better place to begin. Often, it's a combination of both.

If you've been wondering whether poor posture could be contributing to your neck pain, headaches, or back pain, we will be dropping a new article NEXT WEEK that breaks it down in plain English.

Many people assume that if their back or neck hurts, the sore muscle is the problem.

Sometimes it is.

But sometimes those tight muscles are actually protecting an irritated joint or nerve.

That's one reason people can get temporary relief from massage, only to have the pain return a few days later. The muscle was reacting to something deeper.

At Body In Balance, our first goal isn't simply to reduce pain. It's to determine why you're hurting so we can recommend the treatment that's most appropriate for you, whether that's chiropractic care, massage therapy, or both.

If you've been wondering whether your symptoms are coming from a muscle strain or a pinched nerve, we recently published a new article that walks through the differences and explains what we look for during an examination.

One of the most common questions we hear is:

"How do I know if I have a pinched nerve or just a muscle strain?"

The truth is, they can feel surprisingly similar.

A muscle strain usually stays in one area and tends to hurt when you move or use that muscle. An irritated nerve, on the other hand, often causes symptoms that travel, like tingling, numbness, burning, or pain that shoots into your arm or leg.

Knowing the difference is important because the right treatment depends on what's actually causing the problem.

We recently put together an article that explains the differences in plain English and discusses when chiropractic care, massage therapy, or a combination of both may make the most sense.

One of the biggest misconceptions about chiropractic care is that the adjustment is all about making joints "pop."

In reality, the sound is just a byproduct. The real goal is helping restricted joints move better so your body can function more naturally. Better movement often leads to less muscle guarding, improved mobility, and a healthier relationship between your spine and nervous system.

Our newest blog article breaks down the science behind spinal adjustments in plain English—without all the confusing medical jargon. If you've ever been curious about what chiropractors actually do, we think you'll enjoy this read.

Have you ever wondered what actually happens during a chiropractic adjustment?

Many people assume it's simply "cracking your back," but there's much more happening than the popping sound you might hear. A spinal adjustment is designed to help restore normal joint movement and improve the communication between your joints, muscles, and nervous system.

We just published a new article explaining what a spinal adjustment is, why it works, and what current research says about chiropractic care. Whether you've been adjusted for years or have never stepped into a chiropractic office, it's a great place to start.

Ever wondered what a chiropractic adjustment is actually doing?

For many people, the adjustment is the most recognizable part of a chiropractic visit... but it's also one of the most misunderstood.

Is it just "cracking your back?" What causes the popping sound? And more importantly, how can a spinal adjustment help someone move and feel better?

Next week on the Body in Balance blog, we're taking a closer look at the science behind spinal adjustments, how they affect the joints and nervous system, and why millions of people choose chiropractic care every year.

If you've ever been curious about what actually happens during an adjustment, you won't want to miss this one. Keep an eye on our page next week!
