I had the sweetest gentleman in this morning who has lost his brows due to alopecia. After a thorough consultation and lots of conversation, we decided he just wasn’t quite ready to move forward and that’s okay! Integrity will always come before making a sale.

With that being said, my morning opened up!

MICROBLADING ISN’T DEAD. 👏🏼

I keep seeing that microblading is “dead,” “outdated,” or “expired” in the permanent makeup industry and that simply isn’t true.

What has changed is our education, experience, and understanding of the skin.

Years ago, microblading was being performed on almost everyone who walked through the door wanting hair-stroke brows. Today, MOST/educated artists are becoming much more selective about who is actually a good candidate.

And sometimes that means saying NO.

Microblading itself isn’t a bad technique.
Microblading on the wrong skin is a bad technique.

Skin type matters. Oil production matters. Pore size matters. Skin thickness and integrity matter. Age and sun damage matter. Previous permanent makeup and scar tissue matter. Even your desired healed result matters.

On the right candidate, microblading can still heal into beautiful, crisp, natural looking hair strokes.

On the wrong candidate, those same strokes can blur, migrate, fade unevenly, merge together, or create unnecessary trauma especially when repeatedly worked over throughout the years.

This is also why you may come to me asking for microblading and leave with a completely different recommendation. I’m not going to perform a technique simply because it’s the technique you walked in asking for.

Unfortunately, some artists will still microblade anyone willing to book it. I won’t.

Part of being an experienced PMU artist is knowing when to perform a technique and knowing when to say no.

Microblading didn’t become obsolete.

We simply got better at understanding who it belongs on.

Microblading. Nano brows. Powder brows. Combination brows. They’re all tools in an artist’s toolbox. The artistry is knowing which tool belongs on which skin.

Permanent makeup is not one-size-fits-all. Neither are your brows.

A different view of Nano Brows.

Zoom in. 👀 Those aren’t natural brow hairs, those are machine created nano strokes designed to mimic the look and movement of real hair.

So what’s the difference between Nano Brows and traditional Microblading?

Microblading creates hair strokes by using a handheld blade to manually make tiny incisions in the skin and deposit pigment. Nano Brows create hair strokes with a PMU machine and an ultra-fine needle, allowing me to build each stroke with controlled, precise passes rather than cutting the skin.
