Laser Treatments: Why Wavelengths Matter for Safe, Effective Results
Did you know not all lasers are the same? Choosing the right wavelength can make all the difference in results and safety — especially across every skin type and tone.
Alexandrite (755 nm):
This shorter wavelength is highly absorbed by melanin, making it excellent for lighter skin tones and finer hair in laser hair removal. It’s also fantastic for treating dark spots and pigmentation issues because it targets excess melanin effectively. Fast and precise, but best used carefully on lighter skin.
Nd:YAG (1064 nm):
The longer wavelength penetrates deeper with less surface melanin absorption. It’s the gold standard for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) in hair removal, minimizing risks like burns or pigmentation changes. It’s also highly effective for treating visible capillaries, spider veins, and vascular lesions by targeting hemoglobin.
Safe laser treatments aren’t one-size-fits-all. A provider who only has one laser option can’t customize for your unique skin, hair, and concerns, which can lead to poor results or complications. Always choose a clinic that offers both 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG, performs a proper skin assessment, and tailors every session to you.
