Lucky Duck Lashes

Before she was a constellation, she was a star🦢✨

I originally created this set for the The Lash Ritual | Professional Color Lash Extensions x Borboleta Pro Cosmos competition, but ultimately decided to take my entry in a different direction. And while she never made it into the competition, she absolutely still deserves her moment.

My inspiration was Cygnus, the swan constellation, and I wanted the two eyes to tell two versions of the same story.

On one eye, she still belongs to the water🌊

A white swan glides through moody blue gray waves, with her grand tail feathers sweeping upward to create a sharp structured wing on the outer corner.

On the opposite end, her head curves into the inner corner of the eye. A flash of orange creates her bill while an exaggerated black point mimics the beautiful almost eyeliner-like marking that frames a swan eye.

And then, on the other eye, she becomes a constellation🌟

A dark inky blue creates the night sky, with lighter blues and smoky grays, concentrated through the outer wing to mimic that hazy glow you see when stars cluster together in the darkness.

Even though each eye tells a completely different part of the story, I intentionally carried some of the same colors across both sides just used and very different ways.

The blues and grays that create the moody water on one eye become the depth and hazy glow of the night sky on the other, bringing balance and harmony to otherwise asymmetrical design.

I also mirrored the swans sharp black inner corner with an inky blue point on the constellation Eye. It’s another small detail that visually connects the two sides while quietly nodding back to that distinctive swan eyeliner.

finally, holographic stars trace the shape of Cygnus across the Lashes, turning the swan from something swimming below into something shining above.

On one eye, the swan belongs to the water. On the other, she belongs to the cosmos.

The swan doesn’t simply admire the stars, she becomes one✨

Sometimes lashes start in a galaxy far, far away... 🪐

For my Cosmos competition entry, I wanted to create something iconic.

And who’s more iconic than C-3PO and R2-D2? 💛💙

Rather than simply recreating these legendary droids, I set out to translate their most recognizable features into wearable lash art.

Although the color palettes are completely different, the overall
composition is what I like to call ✨symmetrically asymmetrical✨.

The color blocking mirrors across both eyes, creating visual balance while allowing each droid to maintain its own identity. Each eye stands alone as a portrait of its character, while together creating a cohesive composition stronger than either side alone.

R2-D2 embraces structure and precision.
✅ Blue Shine M curl mirrors his angular paneling.
✅ White recreates his iconic chassis.
✅ Silver and Blue metallic anime tinsel reflect his metallic construction.
✅ A single placement of Red Velvet over the pupil represents his unmistakable red photoreceptor.

C-3PO required a softer more humanoid approach.
✅ Gold Metallic Anime Spikes capture his brilliant polished finish.
✅ Silver Metallic Anime Tinsel pays homage to his often-overlooked silver lower leg, a detail some don’t even realize is there.
✅ Smoke Grey and wavy Red Velvet mimic the exposed wiring beneath the plating of his abdomen.

Anime spikes by the lash mommy and their metallic fibers were essential to bringing these droids to life. The spikes echo their bold mechanical silhouettes, while the reflective fibers reinforce the illusion of polished metal in a way matte lashes simply can’t.

To keep every spike crisp, clean, and graphic, I refined the texture using Spyk by Jessica Valentine.

This set celebrates what makes these droids unforgettable. They’re complete opposites in shape, personality, and visual language, yet together they create one of the most recognizable duos in cinematic history.

I wanted this design to capture that same relationship through contrast, balance, and thoughtful design.

I recently had the opportunity to help Mallory at Lucky Duck Lashes improve the search visibility of her website.

One of the things I appreciated most about working with Mallory was that she knew exactly what she wanted. She has a very strong attention to detail, and it is clear that the personality behind the Lucky Duck Lashes brand is intentional. My job was not to change what made the business unique, but to help more local people find it.

We worked through the website service by service, creating stronger individual pages, improving the SEO structure, adding helpful FAQs, strengthening internal links, and making sure the content better reflected what potential clients are actually searching for in Virginia Beach.

Projects like this are a good reminder that improving a website does not always mean completely rebuilding it. Sometimes it means listening to the business owner, understanding their vision, and strengthening what they have already created.

I am grateful Mallory trusted me to help with a small part of the continued growth of Lucky Duck Lashes.

The second I saw Sam ◡̈ • SATX 𝙇𝙄𝘾𝙀𝙉𝙎𝙀𝘿 𝙇𝙖𝙨𝙝 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩 ⍤’s Coraline-inspired set, I knew I had to try to recreate that magical purple-blue masterpiece someday... and Nicole gave me the perfect excuse.

I was absolutely enamored with that set. The colors, the textures, the sparkle... it was perfection. It went straight into my color lash inspiration folder.

So when Nicole asked for a purply lilac set, this was one of the designs I sent her for inspiration. Unsurprisingly, she loved it.

I had to dig into the vault for this color palette because I knew Majestic from The Lash Ritual | Professional Color Lash Extensions had to be part of this set. I don’t get many opportunities to use my double-color lashes, but the deep blue-violet base with lilac tips was exactly the vibe I was looking for.

For the foundation, I mixed narrow fans of Lollipop Purple (Keshya🌺 | Las Vegas Lash Supplier | Mentor 🗝️) and Majestic. Then I added sharp spikes of Aster and Royal to create length, texture, and dimension.

Throughout the set, I sprinkled in Baby Blue, Ultraviolet Wavies (The Lash Ritual | Professional Color Lash Extensions), and Summer Sky (Keshya🌺 | Las Vegas Lash Supplier | Mentor 🗝️) for extra pops of color and contrast.

And of course, I had to finish everything off with blue-green color-shifting lash tinsel (Mermaid Muse Blades by the lash mommy because sparkle belongs on everything.

Nicole loved her lashes. I think she even said this might be her favorite set we’ve done so far.

If you’ve been curious about color lashes but aren’t sure where to start, let this be your sign. Color can be soft, wearable, magical, bold, or all of the above.

Life is too short for boring lashes. Have fun with them. 💜✨

This lash set exists for only a few weeks, and then it’s gone forever.

Transition sets are one of most interesting parts of creative color lashing.

A lot of people assume that changing colors means removing everything and starting over, but that’s often not necessary.

This client is transitioning from a blue, teal, and green gradient into a neon green and black color-blocked set.

Instead of removing a perfectly good set of lashes, we’re making the change gradually as her natural lashes shed and grow.

The fun part? During the transition, you get a look that never could have been planned.

The remaining blues and teals mingle with the new neon green and black, creating an organic blend of both designs.

And because natural lash shedding doesn’t happen evenly across both eyes, each eye develops its own slightly different color pattern along the way.

It’s a little asymmetrical. A little unexpected. And somehow it all works together beautifully.

Transition sets let you get the most out of the lashes you’re already wearing while creating a completely unique look that exists only for a few weeks before the final design emerges.

Sometimes the in-between stage is just as beautiful as the destination🖤💚💙

Inspiration is everywhere❤️💗🧡

Some lash sets start with a color palette.

This one started with a movie poster.

I love the graphic design of the classic Endless Summer poster. The bold color blocking. The high contrast.

The way those bright, saturated colors practically vibrate against each other while still feeling perfectly balanced.

Instead of recreating the poster literally, I pulled the feeling of it into a lash set.

Electric red, sizzling pink, and vivid orange were layered throughout the design to capture that same playful energy.

On the bottom layer, I blended Fuchsia, Barbie Pink, and Red Shine into a seamless gradient that creates an eyeliner effect across the lash line.

On the upper layers, soft curls of Orange and Bright Orange wavy lashes melt into graphic M curls in Red Shine, creating a sharp, high-contrast wing through the outer corners.

The combination of diffused color below and crisp graphic structure above mirrors the bold shapes and striking contrast that made the original poster so captivating.

One of my favorite things about creative color lashes is that inspiration can come from anywhere. A painting. A flower. A favorite outfit. Or in this case, an iconic movie poster that’s been catching people’s attention for decades.

She asked for a simple skunk stripe and I said let’s do one better. 🤍→💚

She LOVES wearing laser printed anime spikes, so for the base of the set we layered those dark graphic arrows throughout fluffy open fans. The result is a veil of inky black texture with sharp peaks and valleys woven throughout. Its dense, deliberate, and just a little edgy.

Then came the star of the show⭐️

A bold stripe of neon green wavy lashes cutting through the darkness like a bolt of lightning.

The contrast against the black is unreal. Your eye goes straight to that flash of electric green, but because the stripe is so structured and intentional, it feels graphic rather than chaotic.

The wavy fibers add movement and texture, making the stripe feel almost electric. It’s equal parts punk rock, anime character, and science experiment gone beautifully right.

And speaking of science experiments, can we talk about the vibe for a second?

Because every time I look at it, all I can think is EDM Bride of Frankenstein.

Not a reference I ever expected to make when I became a lash artist, but I am absolutely here for it. 💚⚡

The very first thing I noticed wasn’t her lashes.

It was her eyes.

They’re absolutely stunning, and they didn’t need a dramatic transformation. They just needed a little definition to let them take center stage.

Because she’s naturally low to medium contrast, we chose rich dark chocolate brown lashes from GLTR Natural line, instead of traditional black.

Brown softly frames the eyes without overpowering them, creating definition that feels effortless instead of harsh.

When I asked what she was hoping for, she smiled and said she wanted a natural look… but still wanted to “look like she had something.”

If you know, you know. 😄

The moment she said that, I knew exactly where we were headed.

✨A beautifully textured Wet Set✨

One of my favorite things about textured lash sets is the way they play with light.

Instead of using one uniform length from end to end, I weave different lengths throughout the design.

The broken, feathered top line lets tiny glimpses of light peek through, creating softness and movement that mimics the look of naturally full lashes.

To me, that’s what makes texture feel so believable. Nature is never perfectly even, and neither are beautiful lashes.

A Wet Set is also the perfect middle ground between Classic and Volume. It has the simplicity of a Classic set, but uses ultra-fine closed volume fans to create a little more depth, darkness, and longevity without looking overly full.

For her design, I layered finer closed fans through the top two lash layers and slightly fuller fans along the bottom layer closest to the lash line.

The result is my favorite combination: a soft, fluttery, feathered silhouette floating above a rich, defined lash line.

From across the room, you simply notice her beautiful eyes.

Up close, you can see all of the thoughtful little design choices working together.

That’s my favorite kind of lash set. One that doesn’t steal the spotlight, but quietly makes everything else shine✨
