AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

250 years is hard to conceive. Living in Virginia, surrounded by monuments and landmarks that are literally scared with the reminders of how farmers turned into soldiers. Mothers and wives turned into nurses, and a country was formed. The ground here is fertilized by the fallen, as you drive through the state there are little cemeteries with headstones dated back 250 years. Hearts were tenderized by the tears of sacrifice. Freedom, an ideal so powerful that it was worth not just fighting for, but dying for.

We have the privilege of living amongst some of the country's bravest souls near Oceana and Seatack naval bases. We often get to serve the families of those who are deployed and those who are returning from sea. Because of this it is not lost on me that we live in what can feel like treacherous times. Many of us feel a bit numb, hollowed out by all of the constant upheaval. And yet, they still come. People from all over the world still view our little experiment of freedom and democracy as something worth migrating toward and something worth fighting for.

I still get choked up by the site of the American Flag flying at full mast against a bright blue sky. Hearing the roar of a crowd at a sporting event sing the national anthem and emphasize “THE HOME OF THE BRAVE!”. America has never been, nor will it ever be, perfect. But what it is, is the home of the brave, the home of innovation and the home of unyielding perseverance. A place where you can create, thrive, and live as you choose. A place where you can drive freely from sea to shining sea. Where you can dream big dreams and against all odds make them come true.That is part of what makes us unique among all other nations.

In my humble opinion, we are not that different from one another. We are all trying to make our way through the world, provide for our ourselves and loved ones, learn, grow, and leave the world better than we found it. Below are 250 inventions and innovations that have come from the USA and something to be proud of! Thank you to the inovators, protectors, and patriots that make America all that it is.
