Tomorrow I have to make the hardest decision I've ever had to make. After thirteenth amazing years, it's time to say goodbye to my sweet Rue.
Losing my dad at a young age made every loss after feel small in comparison. I never really understood how deeply people could grieve a pet.
Now I do.
It's funny to think back to where it all started. I picked Rue up in a sketchy parking lot in Connecticut with Laurene, and if I'm being honest, I wasn't even sure I wanted her. Looking back now, I can't imagine how I ever thought that. I had no idea this tiny little dog would become one of the greatest loves of my life.
Rue was by my side through everything—new jobs, friendships that came and went, moving out of state, starting a business, buying my first home, heartbreaks, victories, and all the ordinary days in between. No matter what life looked like, she was there.
She loved chicky nuggets, thought peanut butter was its own food group, and she always got my pizza crust.
She wasn't "just a dog." She was my family, my shadow, my comfort, and my best friend.
I once saw a quote that said, "The love I have for this creature, even though we have never shared a conversation, is proof that actions speak louder than words." I never truly understood it until Rue. She spent thirteenth years loving me without ever saying a word, yet somehow she always knew exactly what I needed.
A few weeks ago, I brought Walter home, and she welcomed him so gently. It almost feels like she waited until she knew I would be okay before she let go. She's always been looking out for me.
Thank you to everyone who loved Rue over the years. Thank you to Laurene Kirk for being there from the very beginning, and to Norm, Billy Naegele , and Jamie Butler for taking such great care of her whenever I had to travel. And to all my clients that showed her love. It meant more than you'll ever know.
Thirteen years will never feel like enough. I would give anything for one more walk, one more cuddle, and a few more bite kisses.
Run free, my beautiful girl. Eat all the chicky nuggets your heart desires.

....big changes happening....

the next few weeks are going to be hectic here at wicked winks so I wanted to take time in advance to apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. as many of you know I am starting a new career next week and finishing up school. this means my hours will be limited throughout this big transition. hiiii.....it's about time I introduced myself!

I am liz...owner of wicked winks and a lash artist. I have been doing lashes for over 7 years around the Raleigh area. It truly is a passion of mine, which was the driving force to create wicked winks. I am from the northeast...hence the wicked reference...and moved to the area 7 years ago. After working at a few places, I have ventured off on my own. I am certified by 6 various lash companies doing everything from classic lash extensions to mega volume lash extensions (all of my volume lashes are hand-made fans). I also offer lash lifts and tints and some brow services. When I am not working, you can usually find me hanging at home with my dog Rue...reading...hiking...or watching some sort of sporting event. I am rarely without a coffee in hand or dressed in anything that's not all black. 🖤 come check out my new place in wake forest inside with can't wait to meet yall!
