Today is World Refugee Day 🌎! A day to recognize the strength, dignity, and humanity of people forced to flee their homes.

It’s also a reminder that something as simple as soap can be life-saving 🧼!

We recently partnered with Eco-Soap Bank and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine on research measuring the impact of soap access and handwashing in refugee camps — and the results were extraordinary:

Diarrheal disease in children under five dropped by 74% in Ugandan refugee camps and 68% in Kenyan refugee camps. In the Rohingya refugee camp, handwashing rates among children under five increased from 62% to 97%, while disease rates dropped by 26%.

Our co-founder David tried to illustrate what a reduction of more than three-quarters looks like using ping pong balls. He’s not totally sure we landed the point with the balls… but it was a fun visual prop anyway 🏓.

The real point is this: access to hygiene saves lives. And when we invest in refugee communities with dignity and evidence-based solutions, the impact can be dramatic.
