Moving in purpose is something else entirely.
I used to look at my story - reentry, recovery, mental health, housing instability - and wonder why. Who could’ve imagined that every one of those pains was quietly becoming preparation?
Recently, there was one of those days that reminds me: I could not have orchestrated this.
We fulfilled seasonal hygiene backpacks to Pathways to Housing DC - and if you know, you know what it means to hand dignity to someone who’s been told they don’t deserve it. Kia, you are absolutely awesome - thank you for the partnership and all that you pour into this work. And Kelvin, thank you for the connection that made this moment possible.
I also had the privilege of signing consent with my first 3 men navigating life transitions - connecting them to the resources that can change trajectories. Full circle doesn’t even begin to cover it.
And yes - we cut some hair out there.
Look Good. Feel Good. Do Good.
Those words landed differently that day. Men in the community heard my story, and something shifted. Relationships were built. Interest was sparked. That’s what this is really about - not clipboards, not programs. Relationships.
I am so grateful for this season. For every divine connection and provision I didn’t earn but was gifted for the purpose hiding inside the pain of my lived experience.
This is a God thing. And I’m just grateful to be walking in it.

⚙️ GRIND, Daily disciplines. The quiet, consistent work of building and maintaining systems that carry you when emotions can't. The grind isn't glamorous, but it's what makes the vision sustainable.

Last week, in the middle of everything life was throwing my way, I received my Made in DC Verified Product status, and Good Works Grooming Co. is now officially hosted on www.shopdcsb.com. 🖤💚

And while all of that was unfolding, I was simultaneously completing a workshop on this very topic, Daily Grit and Grind.

Not because everything was perfect. Because the systems were already in place.

I'm deeply grateful for my faith, my belief system, and the disciplines I've built that keep me grounded in seasons like these. They didn't show up when life got hard, they were already there.

So I'll leave you with this:

🔑 Stay ready. Because trying to get ready in the middle of the storm can be detrimental to your peace, your progress, and your overall wellbeing.

Build the system before you need it. Live in purpose before the pressure tests it. Hold your values before life dares you to drop them.

The grit and grind isn't a hustle culture slogan. It's a lifestyle of intentional preparation.

There are moments in life where opportunity and purpose align so perfectly that you can only pause and say, For such a time as this.

I am deeply honored to share that I have accepted an internship with Jubilee Housing, Inc., in the Department of Reentry Housing and Services, where I will work alongside an incredible team from March through June 2026.

This week, I had the privilege of joining the team’s staff meeting virtually and being introduced to everyone via Microsoft Teams. Even through a screen, Director Gina Wyley and every member of that team made me feel not just welcomed, but seen. The passion, depth of knowledge, and genuine commitment to the people they serve came through in everything they said and did. I logged off that call more inspired than when I logged on.

In this role, I will be supporting proactive outreach, comprehensive case management, mentorship, community resource coordination, and service planning for individuals navigating reentry. This is not work I stumbled into; this is work that has been living in my heart for years.

To intern not just at Jubilee, but to do work rooted in dignity, purpose, and real human connection, alongside a team this collaborative and this passionate, is a gift I do not take lightly.

I look forward to learning from their experience, drawing on their knowledge and feedback, and contributing everything I have in service to our neighbors who deserve nothing less than our very best.
