Pride Month starts tomorrow.
So before the rainbow logos, the themed merch, and the social media posts, here’s what I need from allies:

I don’t need you to celebrate me for 30 days and forget me for the other 335.

I need you to speak up when LGBTQ+ people aren’t in the room.

I need you to challenge the jokes, comments, and misinformation that get brushed off as “not a big deal.”
I need you to stand beside us when it’s uncomfortable, not just when it’s popular.

I need you to believe us when we tell you what we’re experiencing.

I need you to respect our identities without making us earn that respect.

I need you to vote like our rights, safety, healthcare, marriages, and futures matter: because they do.

I need you to teach your children that LGBTQ+ people deserve dignity, respect, and love.

I need you to keep learning, keep listening, and keep growing.

I need you to remember that Pride exists because people fought for the freedoms many of us have today.

Most of all, I need you to understand that allyship is not a label. It’s a choice you make over and over again.

Not when it’s easy.
Not when it’s trending.
Not when there’s a rainbow on every storefront.

Every day.

Because the LGBTQ+ community doesn’t stop existing on July 1st.

And neither should your support.
