Part of our collectable range, the Hyena Skull is hand-carved from solid cork by our head carver, Dumisani.

For over a decade, our studio has explored the sculptural possibilities of cork, creating an extensive collection of hand-carved works, from intricate seashells, birds and animal skulls to life-size pangolins and monumental 2.8-metre crocodiles.

The Hyena Skull forms part of this ongoing exploration of cork as a sculptural medium. Each piece is carved entirely by hand, celebrating the natural texture and character of the material. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, making each a unique collectable.

Available in both dark and light cork, with custom sizes on request.

Vondeling at Vrymansfontein, set in the picturesque Paarl region of the Western Cape, is an excellent example of how our studio works closely with interior designers, architects and clients to create considered pieces that complement a space in both form and function.

For this project, our work ranges from large-scale cork pendants and smaller custom Angled Pendants to w**e coolers, as well as bespoke ceramic and cork containers created specifically for their w**e and Lindt chocolate pairing experience.

It is incredible to see such a broad variety of our work brought together in one location, while each piece remains distinctly different. The project reflects the versatility of our studio, our materials and our product collection, demonstrating how we can adapt our work across different scales, functions and environments.

For hospitality projects such as Vrymansfontein by Vondeling Wines, the design process begins long before a piece leaves our studio. We work closely with the project team from the early stages, considering the brief, the architecture, scale, materials, production requirements and the realities of a working hospitality environment.

The result is not simply a collection of individual products, but pieces that become part of how the space is experienced.

A bar stool that brings together natural materials and thoughtful design.

Combining the natural texture of cork with the solidity of concrete or the beauty of solid French Oak, each bar stool is paired with engineered steel and a smooth swivel function.

With years of experience in furniture design and making, we bring an appreciation for the finer details to every piece, creating furniture for both residential and commercial spaces.

Designed for 900mm or 1000mm counter heights, these bar stools are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with darker cork grades recommended for outdoor settings.

Shape One is a tall vase from our ceramic collection. Its stacked form brings a sculptural presence to a space. We’ve now developed a smaller version, which will be shown as part of our new collection at the end of October.

Each vase is made by hand in white clay, black clay or terracotta earthenware. Kevin applies multiple coats of reactive glaze, giving every piece a unique colour and finish.

We’re currently making vases for local and international clients. A selection of the tall vases is available to view at our showroom, 15 Baker Street, Observatory.

Introducing the Hugo Bench, our second collaborative bench with artist John Murray.

This second piece is a custom 1.7m version, created specifically for a client. John is incredible when it comes to custom commissions, and for this bench the client worked closely with him to develop the specific artwork and colour palette for the piece.

The colours of the legs were also carefully selected to reference tones within the artwork, ensuring that the overall piece feels balanced and considered.

Together, we developed the Hugo Bench as a collectible design piece that sits between furniture and art. It is fully functional, while also intended to be experienced as an artwork in its own right.

We are very happy that it has now found its new home.

Our Ceramic Display Bowl was designed with both styling and space optimisation in mind.

Over the years, I have collected a number of vintage timber pedestal bowls and have always been drawn to the way they create height within a space while still allowing the area beneath them to remain open and usable.

We wanted to develop our own interpretation of this type of object and translate it through the materials and skills that define our studio, particularly ceramics, hand-finishing and glazing.

Each Ceramic Display Bowl brings together sculptural form and function. The ceramic components are individually made and glazed, creating subtle variations that make every piece unique.

They are incredibly versatile objects and can be used for floral arrangements, fruit, collected objects, decorative displays or even for serving food. They are particularly effective for creating height within an interior or on a table while optimising the space underneath.

As with much of the work we produce at the studio, our intention was to create something that is not only practical, but also original, sculptural and collectable.

We currently have a small selection of Ceramic Display Bowls available to view at our Cape Town studio.
