Why Choosing the Right Lash Technician Matters

A properly trained lash technician understands that every natural lash is at a different stage of its growth cycle. Each extension should be applied to one healthy natural lash only using correct isolation and the appropriate weight and length.

Not all lash extensions are created equal... Here's why your natural lashes matter.

Did you know that every natural eyelash is at a different stage of its growth cycle? That's why a properly trained lash artist will isolate ONE natural lash before applying ONE extension or fan.

The 4 stages of the eyelash growth cycle:

1. Anagen (Baby Lash) A new lash has just started growing. It is fine, delicate and still developing. These lashes should never be overloaded with long or heavy extensions.

2. Early Growth Stage The lash is becoming stronger but is still growing. It can safely support only an extension that is appropriate for its strength and length.

3. Mature Stage This is the strongest, fully grown lash and is able to support the correct extension weight.

4. Telogen (Shedding Stage) This lash has reached the end of its life cycle and is preparing to naturally shed. Losing a few lashes every day is completely normal.

⚠️ So what happens when a lash artist sticks multiple natural lashes together?

Imagine one lash is ready to shed, but the lash next to it is still growing for another few weeks.

When these lashes are glued together (often seen with poorly applied cluster lashes or bad isolation):

❌ The lash that's ready to fall out pulls on the healthy lash.
❌ The growing lash can't move naturally.
❌ This creates constant tension on the hair follicle.
❌ It can cause discomfort, twisting, premature shedding and, over time, may damage your natural lashes.

Healthy natural lashes need to move independently through their own growth cycles.

When choosing a lash technician, look for someone who:
✔️ Carefully isolates one natural lash at a time.
✔️ Uses extension lengths and weights suited to your natural lashes.
✔️ Never glues multiple natural lashes together.
✔️ Prioritises the health of your natural lashes over creating a quick set.

🚫 Why Cluster Lashes Should Not Be Used as Lash Extensions

This is one of the most common misconceptions in the lash industry, so it is important to clarify.

Although cluster lashes may appear similar to professional lash extensions, they are not designed for long-term wear as lash extensions.

✨ Here’s why:

Natural lashes do not all grow at the same rate. Each lash is in a different stage of its growth cycle:
• Some are new and actively growing.
• Some are fully grown.
• Some are naturally ready to shed.

A proper lash extension is applied to one isolated natural lash. This allows each lash to grow and shed naturally without affecting the surrounding lashes.

A cluster lash, however, has a wider base and is designed to sit across multiple natural lashes. When applied like a lash extension, it bonds several lashes together.

❌ So what happens?

As one natural lash sheds, it can place tension on the others that are still growing. This may cause:
• Discomfort or a pulling sensation.
• Premature shedding of healthy lashes.
• Stress on the hair follicles.
• Long-term damage to the natural lashes.

Many people assume that using professional lash adhesive makes cluster lashes safe, but this is not the case. The adhesive only creates a stronger, longer-lasting bond. It does not change the fact that the cluster is attached to multiple lashes.
