Gamalakhe Community Health Centre Hosts Healthy Mbokodo Women’s Event

Gamalakhe Community Health Centre hosted the Healthy Mbokodo Women’s Health Event on 28 August 2026 at the MPCC Hall in Qinabout, bringing women and community stakeholders together to promote health awareness, prevention and access to essential healthcare services.
The event focused on empowering women with knowledge and encouraging them to take greater responsibility for their health through regular screening, early detection and preventative healthcare.
The programme was directed by Mrs Philisiwe Ndwalane and commenced with an opening prayer, followed by welcome and remarks from Ward Councillor M. Ngcobo. Ms T.T. Nxokweni outlined the purpose of the day and highlighted the importance of creating platforms where women can openly discuss health-related issues and access reliable information.
A key presentation was delivered by Dr P.V. Makhanya on preventative healthcare and regular screenings. The session covered important health conditions affecting women, including breast cancer, cervical cancer, HIV and tuberculosis (TB). Women were encouraged to make screening part of their routine healthcare, as early detection can improve treatment outcomes.
The programme also addressed women’s sexual and reproductive health, presented by Mrs N. Peko. Discussions included family planning, teenage pregnancy and termination of pregnancy (TOP), providing an opportunity for participants to receive information and better understand the importance of informed reproductive health choices.
Women’s mental health was another important focus of the event. Mrs Z. Nhlumayo spoke about the importance of recognising and addressing mental health concerns and encouraged women to seek appropriate support when facing emotional or psychological challenges.
The importance of immunisation was presented by Ms N. Mlaba, who emphasised that immunisation remains an important component of disease prevention and protecting individuals and communities.
The event was further strengthened by a Message of Support from Dr Frank Shongwe, who encouraged continued collaboration between healthcare workers, community leaders and residents in promoting healthier communities.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, closure and way forward, followed by a closing prayer.
The Healthy Mbokodo Women’s Health Event demonstrated the commitment of Gamalakhe Community Health Centre to taking healthcare closer to the community and creating opportunities for women to access health information, screening and support.
Through initiatives such as Healthy Mbokodo, women are encouraged to prioritise their health, attend regular screenings, seek healthcare early and share accurate health information within their families and communities. The event served as an important reminder that healthier women contribute significantly to healthier families and stronger communities.
