Often I see Beginner Tech showing clients with a green stain on the nail. The comments which are given are not always 100% correct, so I thought I would just clarify what this green stain is here. If it is just a green stain it is called mildew, which is caused from trapped moisture. It infects extremely neglected nails. Now if the natural nail is covered with acrylic or gel or any other covering for a long period, although not exactly neglected, nobody can see what is going on under the cover. As a result if moisture has seeped between the enhancement and the natural nail, mildew will be the result, causing a green stain; if left and not sorted out in time it can become very serious turning into a condition called Pseudomonas. Now the green stain will start turning black and start to smell. The odor and the green and black colour is the residue left behind by the advancing condition.

Nail biting is a habit that develops over time. A good strategy to help your client stop this habit, is to plan a nail preserving campaign. Help her to feel good about her hands, see her more frequently, and work out a cost effective package for her visits.

Despite the numerous posts explaining that nails do not breath, there are still some people advising self taught technicians to leave nail enhancements off an allow the nails to breath. Nails do not breath. Any Oxygen the nail cells in the matrix needs, are feed via the blood stream. No outside source can feed a dead nail.
