Simple Step-by-Step Guide

Thinking about making your own custom soap bars at home? 🧼

Whether you’re using our Clear/White Glycerine Base or White Goat’s Milk Base, our melt-and-pour soap bases make soap making easy, enjoyable and perfect for beginners!

🧰 WHAT YOU’LL NEED
🧼 So-Soapy Local Soap Base – Glycerine or Goat’s Milk
🔪 A sharp kitchen knife or soap cutter
🥛 A microwave-safe glass measuring jug OR a double-boiler setup
🥄 A silicone spatula or spoon
🌸 Optional: Skin-safe fragrance oils or essential oils
🎨 Optional: Skin-safe liquid soap colourants
🧊 Silicone soap moulds
💦 A small spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol

🥣 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
1️⃣ CHOP THE BASE
Cut your soap block into small, even cubes of approximately 1–2 cm.
Smaller pieces melt faster and more evenly, helping to prevent overheating.

2️⃣ MELT SAFELY
Place the soap cubes into a microwave-safe container and heat in 15–30 second intervals, stirring gently between each interval.
Alternatively, use a double boiler by placing the soap in a smaller pot or heat-safe container over a pot of hot water.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Do not allow the soap to boil. Overheating can affect the texture and appearance of your finished soap.

3️⃣ ADD SCENT & COLOUR
Once completely melted, remove the soap from the heat.
If desired, add a small amount of skin-safe fragrance, essential oil or soap colourant.
Stir gently for approximately 30 seconds. Avoid vigorous stirring, as this can introduce unwanted air bubbles.

4️⃣ POUR & POP THE BUBBLES
Slowly pour the melted soap into your silicone moulds.
For a smooth finish, lightly mist the surface with rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol to help disperse surface bubbles. - available from most pharamcies

⚠️ Use alcohol safely and keep it away from flames and other ignition sources.

5️⃣ LET IT SET
Leave the moulds completely undisturbed at room temperature for approximately 2–4 hours, or until the soap has fully hardened.
For faster setting, you can place the moulds in the refrigerator for approximately 10–15 minutes.
Once completely firm, gently peel the silicone mould away from your new soap bars.

6️⃣ WRAP & STORE
Melt-and-pour soap bases can attract moisture from the air and may develop a process known as “sweating.”
If you aren't using your soap immediately, wrap the finished bars tightly in plastic wrap or cellophane and store them in a cool, dry place.
