Captured from our home visitation.

Home visits help us understand the real situations our clients face beyond what words alone can express. They allow us to see their daily realities, understand their challenges, and identify the best ways to support them.

These visits bring our clients closer to our hearts and remind us that every child and every family has a unique story and this makes it easier for us to serve them with greater compassion, dignity, and purpose.

Our Day Care Center for Children with special needs is more than a place of happiness, it is a place where hope is restored, peace is found, and lives begin to change.

Support a child today. Together, we can help build a brighter future, one life at a time.

FROM SILENCE TO HOPE: A COMMUNITY'S RESPONSE TO PROTECTING A CHILD!!

What seemed like a normal evening for everyone else in Mponda Village of Kasama District became a nightmare for a 13-year-old girl.
She had left the safety of her home to buy a snack at a nearby market when she was lured by two boys to take a sip of a drink they were sharing. With the innocence of a child and trusting that they meant her no harm, she accepted. Moments later, she became disoriented and was sexually abused.

Despite the trauma she had endured, the young survivor demonstrated remarkable courage by finding her way back home and telling her mother what had happened. Her mother's immediate response set in motion a coordinated community effort. Traditional leaders, members of the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU), and the Zambia Police Victim Support Unit (VSU) acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of three of the five suspects. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects continue.
Bakashana staff worked alongside partners- VSU officer to ensure the survivor was urgently taken to the hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment, psychosocial support, and ongoing care.
This case is a powerful reminder of the importance of speaking out, reporting abuse without delay, and working together as a community to protect children.

We remain committed to safeguarding children, supporting survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, and strengthening community systems that prevent violence and promote justice.
Every child deserves to grow up in safety, dignity, and hope. Together, we can end violence against children.

This weekend, one of the parents visited us unexpectedly just to see for herself why her child kept coming to our GLOWBFC Clubs at Bakashana Resource Center despite the distance. After observing and engaging with the programme, here is what she said:

“I didn’t know this place was doing all this. This project needs to reach many young people. My neighbour’s child invited my daughter, and I came to confirm what happens here. I will tell my son to also join, because there is no space like this for young people in Kasama. What you are doing is saving young people from drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, alcoholism, and other things that might put the lives of young people at risk.

These words didn't just warm our hearts, they reaffirmed our purpose and challenged us to think bigger, to do more, and to find ways of expanding our reach so that even more young people in surrounding communities can benefit.

Sometimes, impact is not just what we plan, it is what communities experience, feel, and choose to carry forward. And for us, that is the greatest motivation to keep going.

Another way we've supported our community over the years has been through free English/Bemba classes. The journey has been both humbling and rewarding.

One of our greatest success stories is seeing one of our former beneficiaries return as a volunteer to teach Bemba classes, while others have gained the confidence to enroll in our computer classes, graduate successfully, and continue growing. These stories remind us that when one person learns, an entire community benefits.

Despite our limited resources, we remain committed to giving back and taking pride in service because we have seen the life-changing impact of education

Do you know someone who could benefit from these classes? Register them today! Our English, Bemba literacy classes are 100% FREE and open to both men and women, boys and girls.

Together, let's build a more literate, confident, and empowered community. The power of literacy goes far beyond reading and writing—it restores confidence, creates opportunities, and transforms lives.

A story of Love and Transformation

Iness first came to Bakashana through the Place of Happiness (POH) program in 2023. She faced many challenges like: struggling to eat and interact with other children, or participate in group activities. Even simple eye contact could cause her to stop whatever she was doing.

Today, her story reflects the impact of Love, patience, care, and inclusive support. Our girl is now able to eat with her friends, dance, and actively take part in different activities alongside other children. The growth and confidence she has developed over time are truly inspiring. Through the Place of Happiness-Day Care Centre for Children with Special Needs, we believe in giving hope to the hopeless and that every child has the right to learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive environment. This girl's journey reminds us that with the right support, every small step can lead to remarkable progress.

As seen in the videos, her transformation is a powerful testament to what is possible when children are given love, acceptance, and the opportunity to reach their full potential. Spread love always!

No one should have to choose between caring for their children and learning new skills.

This week we held an orientation meeting with caregivers under the Going Beyond Project. To ensure participants can focus on learning and growing their businesses without distraction, dedicated caregivers will be looking after children aged 10 years and below during class hours.

We are creating an inclusive learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to gain digital skills, strengthen their businesses, and unlock new opportunities. Together, we are making sure that no one is left behind.

Let's learn, grow and go beyond!

Bakashana team together with other local partners spent last weekend in Chimba Village for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness and sensitization program.

As cases of SGBV continue to rise, we brought together community members of all ages for meaningful dialogue, education, and engagement on preventing violence, protecting survivors, and promoting gender equality. Through sports, particularly football and netball, we created a platform where learning, unity, teamwork, and empowerment could thrive together peacefully.

With support from Lawyers Without Borders, we continue to use sports as a tool for social change, community engagement, and economic empowerment.
This was more than just a community event; it was a step towards building safer homes, informed communities, and a future free from violence. We are grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the day. Most importantly, we are so grateful to the community of Chimba village for showing up in numbers.

Together, we can create communities where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and equality. Thank you, Lawyers Without Borders, for your continued support.
