Dice are great for family board games, but they have no place in a child's future.
Early exposure to gambling can disrupt learning, harm mental health, and limit a child's true potential.
This Children's Day, GambleAlert recommits to shielding our youth from harm and nurturing their growth.
Together, let's raise a generation that thrives, not just survives.

Some few years ago, I stopped advertising betting after observing its negative impact on the majority of Zambians. I realised that the influence we carry can either be used to build or to destroy lives.
Many young people have lost their lives, jobs, peace of mind, and sense of purpose because of gambling addiction.
Today, what amazes me most is seeing government institutions like ZNBC actively promoting betting. Governments often speak about protecting young people from addiction, poverty, and other harmful influences, yet betting companies continue to dominate national broadcasting platforms through television, radio, and social media advertisements.
It is concerning to see leaders speak strongly about protecting children and vulnerable communities while gambling content is constantly being normalized in public spaces. We cannot ignore the long-term social impact betting addiction has on youths and struggling families. Development should empower citizens, not normalize dependency on luck as a survival strategy.
ZNBC must remain a platform where children can watch, read, and learn things that build their future without fear. Parents should be able to allow their children on television, Facebook, and other public media platforms with confidence, knowing they are exposed to content that educates, inspires, and uplifts rather than destroys.
The influence we carry as institutions, leaders, and media platforms matters. What we normalize today will shape the future of our nation tomorrow.
