Henna by Tas
Henna is my passion and I would love to share it with anyone who is interested I have loved everything about henna for as long as I can remember.
About The Artist,
Before I begin with details about my life, I would like to say that doing henna is my biggest passion! I was born in Bangladesh and I grew up in 3 different countries in Southern Africa from the age of 2 through 12. My deep love for henna has come from my traditional family upbringings. Although I have lived outside of Bangladesh for most of my life, my parents never wanted me (or my brother) to forget our heritage and culture. We would take month long trips back home to Bangladesh every other year to visit our family when we were younger. During those visits is when I started to get my first exposure to henna. My mom's parents lived in the capital city and on their rooftop garden my grandparents had planted a henna tree just for me (you could say I was spoiled when I visited them!). This plant was taken care of by my grandfather and every time I visited he would pick the leaves and have my grandmother make the henna paste for me, which then my cousins would apply on my hands. My dad's parents live in a more rural area of Bangladesh and they too have planted a henna tree just for me! According to them, no one is allowed to touch this plant unless I am there ;-) Here again, they would pick the leaves and another family member would make the paste for me while another one of my cousins would apply the henna on my hands. As I got older and gained more knowledge about henna, I started to watch videos online about henna application, took a couple courses, and tried to come up with my own designs. A few years back, my parents moved to Toronto, Canada and I moved with them for a couple years. There I began to truly accept my passion for henna. I went to a fair with the family and there were many kiosks with henna artists, which caught my attention right away. I went to one of the kiosks and had my henna done but I was very unhappy with the artists work - not only were they charging too much for the most basic designs, but the designs themselves were just copies of what they had searched online. None of their work was original! I got home later and started to create my own portfolio by doing henna on family members and friends and soon enough, thanks to them and they brilliant advertising, I was soon able to spread the work and share my passion with all of you today!
